A little preparation can help you get the most out of your orthopedic consultation. Here are some practical suggestions.

What to Bring

  • A valid ID.
  • Any previous X-rays, imaging discs and medical reports.
  • A list of current medications.
  • Loose, comfortable clothing that allows examination of the affected area.

What to Think About Beforehand

  • When did the problem start, and what makes it better or worse?
  • Which activities are most affected?
  • What treatments have you already tried?
  • What are your goals for treatment?

During the Consultation

Expect a detailed discussion of your symptoms and history, a careful physical examination, and — where appropriate — arrangements for imaging or investigations. Findings and options will be explained clearly.

Do not hesitate to ask questions. Understanding your condition is an important part of shared decision-making.
